The yoga of devotion : to follow the path of this yoga you need to surrender yourself completely to the force or power greater than yourself, and that force could be a quality, a saint or a deity and that makes you enter the grace of self realization, Gandi and Dalai lama are perfect examples of the Bhakti yoga. This is where Yoga comes in. Yoga, which means to unify, literally uses various breathing techniques in order to increase concentration and self-control. To elaborate on Karma Yogi, we present several examples how a true Karma Yogi is and how does he differ from the one who is not a Karma Yogi. We have to remember 4 points (four principles of Karma Yoga) while performing our actions.
Karma Yoga is one of the Four Paths of Yoga and is based on the principle that all actions are guided first by the attitude motivating your actions. It explain how the Karma plays important role in shaping every dimension of our life. Those of you that might have seen Chögyam Trungpa's book called Meditation in Action in which when I'm washing a pot, I don't wash the pot as the offering to Maharajji. Yoga practiced off the mat and in the real world with others sharing a goal of creating common good. Understanding Karma Yoga as a prescription for spiritual elevation by dedicating one's action to God is too simplistic. But the true goal of Yoga is to bring the practitioner into a state of perfect peace with themself and with the world.
But whatever the attainment may be it will be momentary, a transitory phase, and when one has to confront life's realities, tensions and frustrations again, then the effect of Yoga will take a back seat. In the third chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna states that the subject of Karma Yoga has never been understood by people in the world. In the spirit of Karma Yoga please be willing to offer any combination of the above services, depending on what the studio needs on any given day in exchange for classes. This practice includes the many techniques of Jnana Yoga (The Yoga of will and intellect).
Karma yoga done with the spirit of service, respect and devotion will help draw upon the aspirant guru kripa (grace of the guru). The Lord points out in the Gita that by the practice of Karma Yoga one can insulate oneself from worldly pulls that entangle one in the cycle of birth; and learn to overcome the effects of the three Gunas. This gentle yoga class incorporates breath with movement to create a fluid, dance-like yoga practice. So, in Hatha Yoga and in Raja Yoga, association of Karma Yoga leads to deepened awareness. Yoga is not merely harmony, samattva, and it is not merely expertness in action. The Karma yogin sees, experiences, and confronts everything with great awareness - sees it as it is, never judges. Therefore, it needs to be understood that the real experience of Yoga happens through Karma Yoga. This article will be examining the purpose of Raja Yoga and the states of mind involved.
