After years inside the wood flooring business we all know all the the inner workings so we thought we'd share all of them with you! If you are thinking about buying or fitting a wooden floor then look no further.....read our article first and you'll get a leg up...a jargon free...fact rich gem associated with an article that can ensure you set off within the the right direction. Thanks for looking!!!!

Trust us....we've completed it.... hundreds of times or maybe more!

We've been inside wood flooring business for decades, selling and fitting...so there eally aren't many problems which we've not come across before. We supply and fit solid wooden flooring, engineered hardwood flooring and laminate floors....and every once in awhile correct, repair or relay the floors which other people have installed...and we've seen some shockers! Sometimes a poor finish is simply the result of someone going a negative job...which we actually can't do just about anything about but the single, most critical thing is to buy wood flooring which is appropriate to your environment.

So lets start with some questions you should think about

What form of environment do yo have?? Do you might have high fluctuations in humidity??

What attitude in the event you how your floor looks..how will you feel about scratches??

Do you would like it to appear perfect every one of the time or are you happy with a much more 'lived in' feel'

Do you've got pets or kids (personally I see them as pretty much the same intended for flooring wear...and diet regime!!)??

Do you have an underfloor furnace??

Lets examine solid wooden flooring

Doesn't really need an explanation...its a solid lump of wood...from a tree! Solid wood flooring looks and happy but it's not for everybody.

It's an all-natural product and hence has a few characteristics which need indicating. All timber once felled continues to answer it's environment when it comes to moisture levels. Higher humidity = expansion, lower humidity = contraction so if you've an environment where the humidity fluctuates significantly you need to think seriously before installing solid wooden flooring. Older properties with less efficient damp proofing, kitchens and bathrooms can all potentially create problems as can newly built houses with residual moisture in concrete floors. If you are in different doubt we kitchen design Boston may recommentd obtaining a local flooring specialist to accomplish a quick moisture test. Underfloor heating may also pose significant problems to solid hardwood flooring and as a broad rule of thumb, we'd discourage our customers from installing soild wood over underfloor heating.

So...lets can get on to wear and tear. Solid wood will mark. Period. If you're going to get stressed about dings and scratches forget it. Unless you need to put socks on your own dogs to make your house guests wear slippers! It's a natural product and can produce a 'patina' as time passes. Personally I love rustic grade soild wood...because it's starts out a little less than perfect and carries a great, warm, lived in feel with it and you won't get stressed in the event the dog skids in chasing the kitty or your child drops a metal toy...life's to short to obtain stressed!!

What about Parquet Flooring?

This seems like a good point to talk about parquet flooring. Parquet...or block flooring is generally installed by sticking oak blocks in a regular pattern...typically herringbone to a soild floor. The installation of block flooring should basically be attempted by full competent individuals who have access to specialist tools. We do not recommend the DIY approach!

Lets check out engineered wooden flooring

Engineered...what'..Don't worry, nobody has ever encountered engineered hardwood flooring. So here goes...prepare being enlightened. It's basically a layer of 'real wood' bonded to some softwood base....there you have it...easy wasn't it? Why? well all is here dimensional stability...we're will no longer dealing with a fully natural product here so the manufacturers build in greater stability. The bottom line is it is going to look and feel like timber but you can use it over underfloor heating as well as in areas which aren't suitable for solid wood installations. It comes inside a traditional tongue and groove..(think nailed down floorboards) and floating or click system..akin to laminate flooring. So it is really incredibly versatile...it uses much less of the raw natural resource..that is no bad thing also it can be as fast to lay as being a click system laminate. We recommend the use of engineered flooring to everyone of our customers.

So it's perfect, right?? Well don't forget the top layer continues to be real wood so you will need to take into account the wear and tear points raised inside soild wood section.

Lets take a look at laminate floors

OK that is easy..nearly everyone knows about laminates. They are created by bonding a graphic...basically a photograph onto a softwood base. An ultra stong surface will be appied. They come in endless sytles and coulours and may be fitted by you aren't reasonable capability. Some laminates feature a 50 year domestic use guarantee...which provide you with some idea how stong they are. So if you have a busy house or you desire some with the slightly more 'out there' desings they really are a great choice.
